What is Eco-Design?
De' Longhi Group is committed to developing innovative and sustainable products by embedding our Eco-Design guidelines into every stage of the design process. But what is Eco-Design?
Eco-design is an approach that considers a product's entire lifecycle, recognising that over 80% of all product-related environmental impacts are determined during the design phase. Our method goes beyond traditional product development, integrating environmental considerations from the earliest conceptual stages to ensure that every design decision contributes to reducing our overall environmental footprint.

Over 80% of all product-related environmental impacts are determined during the design phase of a product.
(European Commission, 2022)
It is an approach to the design of products, processes and services that takes into account the entire life cycle, from raw material acquisition to disposal, to minimise environmental impacts.

Our guide
The Handbook
Our Handbook of Guidelines to Design Low Environmental Impact De' Longhi Group Products offers a comprehensive approach to designing sustainable products. By providing specific strategies for minimising energy consumption, optimising product life, facilitating recycling, and reducing material toxicity, we are rethinking product design from its earliest stages.
A partnership for the future
In 2022, we commissioned the LeNSlab (research lab on Design and System Innovation for Sustainability) at Politecnico di Milano's Design Department to develop our Handbook. Through extensive desk research, knowledge exchanges and collaborative workshops with our expert team, we created a comprehensive framework that translates academic insights into practical design tools. This partnership exemplifies our commitment to bridging research and industrial innovation.
